There Will Be Pastrami…

I went to the newly relocated 2nd Ave. Deli for lunch today. For your information, it’s located on the corner of 33rd St. and 3rd, not Second Ave. Oh well, I guess the name is there for sentimental reasons. I ordered the half-pastrami sandwich with small matzoh ball soup for a whopping $15 and I have to say, it was the best pastrami sandwich I’ve had in years. The meat was extremely savory, moist, warm and the brining spices really shone through. With soft rye bread and a healthy dose of mustard, this pastrami sandwich was a pure delight. I’m not one to judge matzoh ball soup, but it was okay at best. It’s basically chicken soup with noodles, carrots and a big matzoh ball. And it still doesn’t justify their outrageous prices! If I’m going to pay $15 for lunch, next time I’m ordering a side of gribenes (chicken skin fried in schmaltz) and a dish they call The Instant Heart Attack (A sandwich consisting of two large potato pancakes with your choice of meat). Your heart will not be thanking you…Rating 8.4
